Letter to the Editor : More than 70 campus members call stories on Cantor irresponsible journalism
The undersigned members of the Syracuse University community are writing to comment on the two-part article that was published in The Daily Orange on April 26, about Chancellor Nancy Cantor titled ‘Fait Accompli.’ We found these articles to be examples of irresponsible journalism that does not represent the best of what a student newspaper should exhibit. The articles were attacks poorly veiled as investigative reporting and paint a significantly skewed and inaccurate portrait of the community as a whole. It should come as no surprise in a university this size given Chancellor Cantor’s bold vision that the student reporters found a dozen faculty who are disgruntled, or were able to identify three dozen anonymous people who are critical of the chancellor. We would expect this in any large organization.
The undersigned are members of the SU community, and we are writing to unequivocally express our full support of Chancellor Cantor’s leadership and vision. We are greatly appreciative of the chancellor’s decisive action around issues of diversity and justice – like HillTV, her boundary-expanding and bold vision, her support and compassion, and the place we feel SU is becoming. We hope this letter sends a strong message that this university community has many members who appreciate Chancellor Cantor as a person and leader.
