Who’s your choice to win an Oscar?

Evan Fonseca

freshman film major

‘If Ben Affleck was nominated this year, I’d be more interested. But I’m rooting for ‘The Hurt Locker’ to win best picture and (for) Matt Damon in his supporting role in ‘Invictus’ because I love me some Matt Damon.’

Janine Peakes

sophomore psychology and biology major

‘I really want Christoph Waltz to win for ‘Inglorious Basterds.’ That movie as a whole was amazing, and Christoph Waltz is definitely the most deserving of that award. For best picture I’m rooting for anything except ‘Avatar.’ That was one of the most unoriginal movies of the year.’

Marie Eife

sophomore musical theater major

‘George Clooney winning best actor for ‘Up in the Air’ would be great – who doesn’t like George? Seeing ‘Avatar’ win would be cool. It didn’t have the best story, but it had the best visuals I’ve seen in a long time and it was cool to see James Cameron come up with a whole new world.’

Hunter Lurie

freshman television, radio and film major

‘It would be great if Kathryn Bigelow won best director for ‘The Hurt Locker’ because her directing, that adrenalized the masculine film (and) shows that women can direct more than romantic comedies. I was very happy to see Stanley Tucci nominated in the best supporting actor category for ‘The Lovely Bones,’ but I really feel Christoph Waltz will win for ‘Inglorious Basterds.’
