Exhibition to feature 3-D design
3-D computer-aided designs will be presented in a free exhibition titled ‘Creativity through Exhibition Design II’ at The Warehouse Design Gallery from March 9-30.
The exhibition, featuring designs by Syracuse University museum studies graduate students, is inspired by the New York State Tower Building located near Hanover Square. Bradley Hudson, a museum studies professor in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, said all exhibit installations will be complete by Friday during his MUS 604: ‘Practicum II’ course.
‘The exhibition is part of the training of the students to learn how to design and present exhibitions,’ Hudson said in an email. ‘The major reason for presenting the exhibition is for education — experiential learning.’
Gloria Castorena, a graduate assistant, said the exhibit contains four separate models, each of which are on a 1-foot-to-1-inch scale of the exhibition space.
‘There are four three-dimensional models and some CAD drawings in the exhibit completed by students of my class,’ Hudson said. ‘These models or drawings were developed to envision an exhibition of Public Sculpture which will take place in the State office building on Warren Street.’
The exhibition, titled ‘Hidden in Plain Site: Sculpture in Syracuse and the Work of the Public Artist in Residence,’ will take place from April 14 to May 12.
‘Creativity through Exhibition Design II’ also includes photos taken by students in the class showing the progression of the models, Casterena said. Another aspect of the class project was to build a 3-D model using Google SketchUp to portray the exhibition design.
The Design Gallery is located on the first floor of The Warehouse and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
