Opportunity Knocks : Event calendar

Welcome back to spring semester. It’s the time when you curse at the snow, avoid work for the first three weeks, live up the basketball season and curse at the snow again. As the weeks go by and days get warmer, nearly every student has a preoccupying thought: summer plans.

Whether it’s alack of experience or uncertainty in future professions, we all struggle with figuring out where to look for internships and career opportunities.

But fear not. The Daily Orange presents Opportunity Knocks, a compilation of advice, essential information and events you may want to know about. So relax because everything will fall into place better than you realize.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming opportunities, highlighted by the Syracuse University Career Center:

Guest Speaker: Lauren Berger, the Intern Queen

Tuesday, Feb. 1, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Maxwell Auditorium

Lauren Berger, appropriately coined ‘the Intern Queen,’ had 15 internships in college. With experience working at FOX, MTV and NBC, Berger will undoubtedly have some interesting and constructive tips for all students.

Resumania

Wednesday, Feb. 2, Career Services — Suite 235 of the Schine Student Center

Resumania gives students a chance to sit down with an employer representative and receive constructive criticism on resumes. It’s great preparation for the Spring Career Expo and an opportunity for one-on-one advice with successful employers.

Spring Career Expo

Thursday, Feb. 3, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Goldstein Auditorium of the Schine Student Center

The Spring Career Expo allows all students of every major to connect and interact with top employers in a variety of fields. Employers will recruit students for full-time career and internship opportunities, according to SU Career Services.

Environmental Career Fair

Wednesday, Feb. 23, Moon Library — State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry

The Environmental Career Fair is a joint effort between SU and ESF. Employers in the environmental industry will recruit full-time employees, interns and summer hires. According to SU Career Services, there will also be plenty of career-advising sessions and events provided by ESF before the fair.

Community Connections

Friday, Feb. 25, Schine Student Center

For anyone interested in pursuing a career in government or nonprofit organizations, Community Connections is a great opportunity to meet with over 50 employers of both local and national organizations.
