Syverud selects next chief human resources officer

Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud has appointed Andy Gordon to be the university’s senior vice president and chief human resources officer. Gordon, who will report directly to Syverud, will assume his new role at SU on April 15. Read more »

Pledge involved in Nu Alpha Phi hazing incident not expected to lose fingers to frostbite

The victim, who is a 20 year-old Syracuse University student, will need extensive physical therapy in order to regain use of his fingers. The hazing incident occurred at about midnight on Sunday, when three pledges of Nu Alpha Phi were told to perform exercises at a park for approximately 20 minutes as punishment for “failing to perform their daily duties properly,” police said. Miss America 2014 to speak at SU in April about diversity

Nina Davuluri, who lives in nearby Fayetteville, New York, will give a lecture titled, “Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency,” according to a syracuse.com article. She was the first-Indian-American crowned Miss New York, and eventually became the first Miss America of Indian heritage. Read more »

Former Amazon chief scientist discusses data in 1st University Lecture of semester

Andreas Weigend, former chief scientist at Amazon and data expert, delivered his lecture titled, “We Are Our Data: Harnessing the Power of Social Data” Tuesday night in Hendricks Chapel to a crowd of about 130 members of the SU community. Weigend’s was the first University Lecture of the spring semester, and he addressed the way data affects people’s daily lives. Read more »
